School Improvement Plan

School Improvement Plans (SIP) serve as a tool to assist school staff in their continuous school improvement efforts. They also fulfill state and federal requirements, including Title I Schoolwide/Targeted Assistance plan requirements.

As part of a district-wide strategic planning process Nellie Stone Johnson Community School will focus on five school improvement strategies for the next 3-5 years:

  • Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) for teachers that focus on examining student work, reviewing student assessment data, and ensuring that instruction is aligned to individual student need.
  • Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), which focuses on supporting students in taking more responsibility for their own learning
  • tandards-based instruction across content areas to improve core teaching.
  • Family Engagement strategies that increase family and community involvement in school activities, volunteer opportunities, and other forms of community support; and provide appropriate social-emotional and community-oriented services and supports for students and families.
  • Student Engagement strategies that focus on student centered approached to learning.
