Uniform Policy
Nellie Stone Johnson Community School believes a school uniform policy will help promote safety, and ease of identification, equity, school pride, good behavior and the development of community. Further more, a school uniform presents a professional image to our community and distinguishes our students while they participate in community activities.
Uniform Policy All tops must have a collar and sleeves. All colors are solid. No patterns, words, logos, emblems, or insignias on uniforms. All bottoms must be fitted at the waist and hemmed above the floor. No sagging pants. Belts must be worn at all times. Sweaters, sweatshirts (no hood), and vests of the uniform top color may be worn. Girl’s skorts, skirts or jumpers cannot be shorter than the knee in length. No slits. Uniform shorts are acceptable. Tennis shoes are acceptable. K-5 Elementary Student Students wear khaki bottoms and navy tops. Students in elementary school may wear cotton/poly pants and shirts in their uniform color. Skirts must be tucked in at all times. Belts must be worn at all times. 6-8 Intermediate Students Middle school students wear khaki bottoms and a black top polo shirt. Shirts must be tucked in at all times. Belts must be worn at all times. The following is a List of Unacceptable Items Any colors not desgnated for their specific grade level. Jeans of any type, sweatpants, or jogging pants. Jackets, hooded shirts, windbreakers or coats. Hats, scarves, bandanas or headbands. No combs. Accountability – All Students to Wear Uniform Parents and students will be notified at enrollment of the uniform policy and will sign an agreement to participate. Those students not in uniform will be issued a uniform; returning it before dismissal. Student not following the uniform policy and refusing school uniforms will go to the In School Suspension Room.
