Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year. The purpose of this website is to help keep parents informed as to what is happening in your child's ESL class. Click on your child's class below to see a list of current assignments.

Welcome!   I'm excited to be in my third year teaching ESL at Nellie Stone Johnson.  I teach middle school, 5th grade & Newcomers  (students who are new at learning English).

The big news is that I've moved to room 126 and my old room, 227 will now be a behavior support room.

ESL classes this year will be a mix of some Pull-Out & Inclusion classes.  Pull-Out is when students from one or more classrooms attend special intensive language classes for part of each day.  Inclusion is when two teachers (ESL and mainstream) share responsibility for a group of students in the mainstream class.  My goal is to use the approach that helps students best.

A bit about myself, I went to the University of Wisconsin, Madison and have a degree in Spanish.  I graduated from the U of M, Twin Cities with a Master's Degree in Education for English as a Second Language (ESL).   This is my 9th year teaching in Minneapolis Public Schools.

Families can contact me at alan.subola@mpls.k12.mn.us or at the NSJ school phone # (612) 668-2930.
