In first grade the students learn the basic principals of art:

  • Line
  • Color
  • Shape
  • Texture
  • Symmetry

Birds of a Rainbow

In this lesson, first grade students studied the colors of the rainbow.  Each student learned how to read the color wheel and create the three secondary colors.

Shape Robots

In this lesson, first grade students studied shapes.  Each student used a variety of tools to create their very own robot made from at least four different shapes.

Primary Color Art

In this lesson, first grade students studied Peit Mondrian and his use of the primary colors (red, yellow, and blue).  Each student created his or her own Peit Mondrian influenced art.  

Fishy Lines

In this lesson, first grade students learned the seven different types of line: straight, thin, thick, curved, wavy, zigzag, and spiral.  Each student created their own fish and added all of the seven lines into their fish.
