Congrats to our NSJ chess team. They played in the Under 1000 division, a tough division to play in for their first National Tournament. They placed 21st out of 48 teams from across the country and brought home another trophy!
"Seven boys from Nellie Stone Johnson Elementary School are being groomed for the state chess tournament in St. Paul on Saturday and Sunday. After that, it's only six weeks until the national tournament in Nashville. All year, the fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders have played chess twice a week in an after-school program." NSJ is proud to announce that we are one of the 7 MPS schools awarded a Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program Grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Beginning April 19, 2012 a fresh fruit or vegetable snack will be provided each school day for all students in our school. Snacks will be eaten in the classroom and children will be encouraged to try the fruit or vegetable. Read more...
The Minneapolis Board of Education approved the 2012-2013 school year calendar, which includes four additional days of instruction for all students. The school year will begin for students on August 27, 2012 and end on June 4, 2013. Kindergarten students will begin on August 29, 2012. Learn more.
